Payconiq is becoming Wero
Payconiq is evolving into Wero – a new European way to pay that is backed by leading European banks.
The transition will happen over the next few months, and your service will continue as usual throughout.
FAQ
Existing Luxembourg merchants formerly contracted directly with Payconiq should contact Buckaroo for onboarding, operational guidance and any required updates.
New merchants (or merchants in other markets): You can set up Wero acceptance through any EPI‑certified acquirer/PSP. See the live Wero partners page for the current list of acquirers (which includes Buckaroo among others).
Yes. Wero-branded QR codes will gradually replace Payconiq-branded QR codes. Important: do not print new Payconiq QR codes for use after summer 2026. Your PSP will provide you with everything you need to create Wero QR codes during the transition.
A Wero app, developed in cooperation with participating Luxembourgish banks, will be launched for consumers in Luxembourg. Consumers will need to download the Wero app and complete a short onboarding process to link their bank accounts to Wero.
Once they have completed this process, they will be able to pay with Wero in stores and online wherever Wero is accepted. It will also be possible for consumers to make Invoice payments from the Wero app.
The payment experience for merchants will remain simple and familiar. Your PSP will tell you if there are any operational updates or technical adjustments needed.
Wero is the new European digital payment wallet, backed by leading European banks and financial institutions, and is designed to enable simple, secure and seamless payments across Europe.
By transitioning to Wero, Payconiq evolves from a national payment solution into a broader European payment ecosystem with long-term scalability and cross-border capabilities.
For the moment nothing changes, and we will keep you updated at every stage of the transition. The first change for you is that payments you make with Payconiq will be routed through the Wero system, and eventually the Payconiq app will be turned off. We will tell you in good time before this happens, but we strongly encourage you to download the Wero app and connect your bank account.
Payconiq International SA is carrying out a review of certain historical customer balances and is running a refund campaign for eligible former customers. This refund campaign is separate from your current Payconiq payment experience and does not relate to your current transactions. It concerns only historical amounts that may be due from Payconiq International SA in relation to past services. Your current Payconiq payment experience is not affected by this refund campaign. At the same time, Payconiq is continuing its smooth transition to Wero.
As part of this review of historical Payconiq transactions we have identified that some customers may be entitled to receive funds that could not previously be returned, for example because a payment was not completed or a refund could not be processed.
If you have been identified as potential rightful owner of the funds you have received an email from us from:
For Consumers:
For Merchants:
We ask that you reply to this email and only that email address.
How do I know the e-mail is legitimate?
If you are entitled to receive funds, you will receive an e-mail from us
Consumers: Email:
Merchants: Email:
- For your security, we will only contact you from these e-mail addresses.
- We will never ask you to respond through another e-mail address.
- If you are unsure if an e-mail is genuine, please contact us using the contact details provided on our website.
- Any e-mail asking directly for your password, card number or any upfront payment should be considered suspicious.
Why do I need to provide information?
Before we can return any funds, we need to verify that we are sending them to the correct person. Depending on your situation and country of residence, we may ask you to provide information or documents to confirm your identity and your entitlement to the funds. If you are unable to verify your identity or ownership of the funds, we may not be able to process your refund.
How long do I have to respond?
Please respond by no later than 15 September 2026.
From 15 August 2026, Payconiq may apply fees for the continued holding and administrative management of the funds. Any such fees shall not exceed the amount of the outstanding funds held by Payconiq in respect of the relevant person. Accordingly, the application of such fees will not result in any negative balance or additional payment obligation for you.
When will I receive my money?
Once your identity and entitlement have been successfully verified, we will proceed with your refund.
Can I claim the same funds again later?
No, once your refund has been paid, the matter is considered resolved and you cannot submit another claim for the same payment or refund.
Can the refund be paid to someone else’s bank account?
Normally, the funds must be paid to a bank account held in your name.
If you cannot receive the payment into an account in your own name, contact us using the official contact details on our website. Additional checks and documentation may be requested, and we may not be able to make a payment to a third-party account.
