Wero offers the same security and ease of use you already love about Payconiq, while introducing new payment options and services, including purchase protection.

Even better: the transition is designed to be smooth and gradual. You can continue accepting payments as usual while the ecosystem evolves – so you can stay focused on running your business while we build the next generation of European payments.

What is Wero?

Wero includes everything you love about Payconiq, but built for Europe. It combines the security and easy payments of Payconiq, with new options and services designed for the future of payments.

Over time, Wero will enable payments across multiple European markets, helping merchants and consumers alike pay and get paid as easily across borders just as easily as they do at home.

How the transition will happen

Now – Brand transition

You will start seeing and hearing more about the Wero brand in apps, checkouts and communications. During this phase, you’ll keep using Payconiq as usual.

Summer 2026 – Transition phase

Wero becomes the primary consumer brand in Luxembourg. The Payconiq brand and services will progressively transition to Wero, but payments will keep working as usual. Your PSP will tell you if there is anything you need to do.

Late 2026 – Full transition

Payconiq will fully transition to Wero, and the Payconiq brand and app will no longer be used.

How can I offer Wero instead of Payconiq?

Existing Luxembourg merchants formerly contracted directly with Payconiq should contact Buckaroo for onboarding, operational guidance and any required updates.

New merchants (or merchants in other markets): You can set up Wero acceptance through any EPI‑certified acquirer/PSP. See the live Wero partners page for the current list of acquirers (which includes Buckaroo among others).

Do I need to replace my QR codes?

Yes. Wero-branded QR codes will gradually replace Payconiq-branded QR codes. Important: do not print new Payconiq QR codes for use after summer 2026. Your PSP will provide you with everything you need to create Wero QR codes during the transition.

How will consumers use Wero in Luxembourg?

A Wero app, developed in cooperation with participating Luxembourgish banks, will be launched for consumers in Luxembourg. Consumers will need to download the Wero app and complete a short onboarding process to link their bank accounts to Wero.

Once they have completed this process, they will be able to pay with Wero in stores and online wherever Wero is accepted. It will also be possible for consumers to make Invoice payments from the Wero app.

The payment experience for merchants will remain simple and familiar. Your PSP will tell you if there are any operational updates or technical adjustments needed.
