FAQ
Payconiq is a mobile banking payment solution that allows you to pay in the store, on the internet or in apps on your mobile. You can use the app to pay your bills and transfer money to friends and family. Payments are made directly from your bank account, immediately and safely.
The Payconiq solution is issued by five of Luxembourg’s largest retail banks. Each of them offers its customers its own Payconiq application that you can download from the App Store or Google Play. After activation, it is linked directly to the bank account of your choice. When you pay or transfer money through Payconiq, a free wire transfer* is triggered. Your bank account is debited, and the payment recipient credited for the amount you validated.
*Wire transfers initiated via Payconiq are free for the payer.
Payconiq is a mobile banking payment solution that allows you to pay in the store, on the internet or in apps on your mobile. You can use the app to pay your bills and transfer money to friends and family. Payments are made directly from your bank account, immediately and safely.
Please contact your bank or consult its website for the Payconiq Terms of Use issued by the bank in question.
BCEE, POST Luxembourg, BIL, BGL BNP Paribas and ING Luxembourg offer the Payconiq application to their customers. Nevertheless, the Payconiq mobile payment system is intended to open gradually to other banks (“open bank solution”). Each participating bank develops and makes available to its customers its own Payconiq application.
The Payconiq payment solution allows your smartphone to retrieve the information needed to initiate a payment from your bank account to the merchant. These data can be either encoded in a QR Code (Quick Response Code *) or issued by Payconiq Beacon terminals through Bluetooth Low Energy or NFC (Near Field Communication) technologies.
After having retrieved the information necessary for the payment, confirm it with your Payconiq-specific PIN (Personal Identification Number) or by means of your fingerprint, to authorize the payment from your bank account. The operation is confirmed on your phone’s screen and the merchant receives the confirmation. To view a demonstration video, click here.
*QR Code is a registered trademark of Denso Wave Incorporated.
To pay, simply scan the Payconiq QR Code, which can either be printed (invoice, receipt, sticker on the cash register) or displayed on a screen (phone, tablet, specific point-of-sale screen or your computer screen for e-commerce purchases) through the phone’s camera and your Payconiq App. The payment details will be displayed on the screen, at which point you can confirm the transaction with your PIN or fingerprint. The payment is made.
Following any successful Payconiq payment transaction, a message confirming payment will appear on your smartphone screen and confirmation will be provided to the merchant. In case of problems, such as a network loss, an error message is displayed on your smartphone and the transaction is not carried out. In addition, you can consult, at any time, the history of your Payconiq payments in your Payconiq app or via your web or mobile banking.
All payment transactions by Payconiq appear on your bank statement. However, it is up to the partner bank to define the mode of communication in relation to the Payconiq payments made. Some banks have chosen to provide debit advice only for certain transactions and others for all transactions made by Payconiq. In all cases, all the partner banks show payments in the history of transactions made on the account, available on your web or mobile banking. Please contact your bank for further details.
Some banks show the account balance in the Payconiq app at the time of payment. In this case, you can view the selected account balance just before a payment is confirmed or at any time in the “bank account” tab of the Payconiq app. This feature allows you to better manage your financial situation and ensure that you have the funds required for the payment to be made. You can check the balance of your bank account during a transaction, just before the payment is confirmed. You can also check the balance of your account in the “Bank Account” tab of the Payconiq App.
You can pay in shops that accept Payconiq as a payment method. The Payconiq logo is usually displayed near the cash register and / or the entrance. You can also pay invoices which display a Payconiq QR Code and shop online at participating e-stores. The list of Payconiq partners is continually expanding. You can consult the complete list by clicking here. (https://payconiq.lupartenaires)
Make sure that you have enabled the Bluetooth or NFC function on your phone and have given permission to the application to access it. Also make sure you have brought your phone close enough to the Payconiq Beacon terminal, especially for the NFC function. If you want to pay via Bluetooth, make sure your phone is compatible with Bluetooth technology. In case of a problem of this type, you can always choose the “Scan” function on your smartphone to make the payment by scanning the QR Code displayed on the Payconiq Beacon terminal.
Yes, it is perfectly possible to add a tip before triggering the payment, if the merchant has chosen for this function to be enabled.
To pay by Payconiq Beacon, your Smartphone must be Bluetooth or NFC compatible. In this case, you must first activate the Bluetooth or NFC option on your phone to receive the information transmitted by Payconiq Beacon terminals.
The Payconiq TRANSFER feature allows you to send or request money to any phone number wherever you are and at no cost. You can use it for example to easily share the bill at the restaurant, refund the € 10 you owe your friend for yesterday’s cinema, pay the babysitter, give pocket money, make a birthday present … As for Payconiq payments in shops and for bill payments, the transfer of money is from one account to another: you and your loved ones do not need to reload a prepaid account or use another bank account than your current account, and you will be able to do without banknotes and coins. To transfer money, you can use the mobile number of your relatives, whether they have already activated Payconiq or not.
First, you must select the “Transfer” and then “Send” function in your Payconiq app. Then fill in the phone number (by direct entry or by choosing the contact in your address book on your phone) of the person to whom you want to send money, as well as the amount. Finally, enter your PIN or use your fingerprint to validate the transfer, as for Payconiq payments in store.
If the recipient has already activated Payconiq, he/she will receive a notification on his/her phone (if he/she has authorized the receipt of notifications), and the amount will be credited to his/her account within the standard wire transfer delay, usually the next business day.
If the person holding the number you have chosen does not have Payconiq yet, you can authorize the sending of an SMS asking him/her to download the app, and your transfer will be put on hold for a maximum of 15 days. Once the person has activated Payconiq, the transfer will be made from your account (subject to availability of funds at that time).
First, you must select the “Transfer” then “Ask” function in your Payconiq application. Then fill in the phone number (by direct entry or by choosing the contact in the address book of your smartphone) of the person to whom you wish to ask for money, as well as the amount. The request is then sent directly to your contact.
If the recipient has already activated Payconiq, he/she will receive a notification on his/her phone (if he/she has authorized the reception of notifications) and will have to validate the sending of money using his/her PIN code or by means of his fingerprint. The sum will then be credited to your account within the standard transfer / Eurotransfer delay, usually the next business day.
If the person holding the number you have chosen does not have Payconiq yet, you can authorize the sending of an SMS asking them to register, and your request will be put on hold for a maximum of 15 days. Once the person has activated Payconiq, he/she will receive a notification on his/her phone (if he/she has authorized the reception of notifications) and will have to validate the sending of money by means of his/her PIN or by means of his/her finger print.
To send or request money, you can use the recipient’s phone number, whether they have Payconiq installed or not. However, the recipient must be a customer with one of the Luxembourg banks that offers Payconiq. His/her phone number has to be verified and he/she needs to authorize the receipt of transfers to his/her number phone in the Payconiq App.
If the recipient of your shipment or your request for money has not yet activated Payconiq or authorized the Payconiq TRANSFER function, you can authorize the sending of an SMS asking him/her to register, and your sending or your request will be put on hold for up to 15 days.
When you send or request money, you can view the transfer history in your Payconiq App (similar to Payconiq payments made in shops or for invoices). If you receive money, you will automatically be notified (if you have authorized the receipt of notifications for the Payconiq App on your smartphone). In addition, requests for money will be recorded in the transaction history. Further, you will be able to consult Payconiq transactions via the supports and channels put at your disposal for these purposes by your bank (statements, home banking, web banking, mobile banking, etc…)
The limit is identical to the limit defined for the use of Payconiq in shops and for bill payments.
Any Luxembourg or international mobile number, which can be verified by sending an SMS message, can be used to activate Payconiq. Activation is therefore not limited to Luxembourg numbers alone. Before using Payconiq TRANSFER, please ensure that the recipient of your payment has a bank account held by one of the Luxembourg banks offering Payconiq. The list is available on payconiq.lu. But you will not run any risk if the recipient does not activate Payconiq: after 15 days, your pending transfer will expire, and the money will never be debited from your account.
You can cancel a pending transfer or request at any time using your Payconiq App. Under the “Account” function, at the top right of the menu, you can view all completed transactions, transfers received and sent, and pending payments or requests for money.
If despite the display of the name of the recipient on the basis of the telephone number you have chosen, you have nevertheless confirmed the sending of the money by entering the PIN or by means of your finger print, please contact from your bank.
For a Payconiq App, you will only be able to associate a phone number with a bank account. But you can associate another mobile phone number with another account in another Payconiq App, typically on another smartphone.
You can associate the same phone number with different Apps from different banks. However, for the use of Payconiq TRANSFER, it is only possible to associate a specific number to an account with a bank.
At this time, the initial link with your account for receiving payments will be automatically deleted. You will receive the payments on the account newly associated with the mobile number in question. For this purpose, the bank from which you have newly authorized the receipt of payments will inform the other banks that offer Payconiq to their customers, who, if necessary, will then automatically delete the link to the initial account, for the function of receiving payments. Thus, your phone number will remain associated with the initial App, which will remain functional for Payconiq payments in shops and for bill payments. You may at any time reassign this App to your number by means of the function provided for this purpose in your Payconiq App, and the possible link with another App / account will be deleted automatically.
No, for the reception of a payment by Payconiq TRANSFER, it is necessary that the recipient activates the Payconiq App and associates the number of a mobile phone designated as the recipient by the person who initiated the transfer.
You can block Payconiq 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, preferably via the web or mobile banking of your bank (according to each partner bank) or by clicking here. (https://webui.digica.sh/views/public/blockaccount.xhtml) If you enter a PIN incorrectly three times consecutively, the Payconiq App will automatically be blocked on your phone.
The reactivation can be done by following again the normal activation procedure via the web or mobile banking of your bank (according to each partner bank).
It will be necessary to deactivate and reactivate your Payconiq app. In this case, go to the “Account” section at the top right, then “Settings” and click on “Disable Payconiq” and confirm. Your App is then disabled. For reactivation, it must be done by following the normal activation procedure via the web or mobile banking of your bank (according to each partner bank). Note that this procedure does not allow you to keep your history (transactions / payment requests / messages) since you will be considered as a new user.
Your Payconiq PIN can be changed from your Payconiq App. In this case, go to the “Account” section at the top right, then “Settings” and click on “Change PIN”.
The infrastructure, the DIGICASH mobile payment network, and the DIGICASH application of each partner bank, meet very high security and encryption standards for mobile payments. You validate each payment with your DIGICASH PIN or with your fingerprint. The DIGICASH QR Codes as well as the data issued by the DIGICASH Beacon terminals also contain no confidential data. More specifically, the encoded information refers to either the amount to be paid, the identity of the beneficiary and the reference of the payment / invoice, or only to the identity of the beneficiary; in short, information necessary for any payment and which is not confidential. Of course, for these security measures to be effective, you should never store your PIN on your smartphone, annotate in any form whatsoever, or use any tool for automatic storage of words of pass to store the PIN. In addition, it is strongly recommended to use a PIN specific to the DIGICASH application of your bank and therefore not to use the same code for other applications or for the security of the smartphone on which is installed the DIGICASH App. During the DIGICASH activation procedure in your bank’s web banking, you must not disclose the QR Code of initialization displayed in your web banking to a third party.
Do not store your PIN on your smartphone, do not annotate it in any form, and do not use any automatic password / PIN storage tool to store the code. Use a specific PIN for the Payconiq application of your bank and do not use the same code for other applications or for securing the smartphone on which Payconiq is installed. During the Payconiq activation procedure in your bank’s web banking, do not disclose the initialization QR code displayed in the bank’s web banking to a third party. Finally, in case of theft or loss of your smartphone, your identification and / or your PIN, immediately block your DIGICASH App via your web access or mobile banking (according to each partner bank).
The PIN specific to the Payconiq application of your bank consists of 4 to 6 digits. If you wish, you can change your PIN from the Payconiq application. It is strongly recommended to use a code specific to the Payconiq application and therefore not to use the same code for other applications or for the security of the phone.
What to do in case of loss, theft, or disclosure, even involuntary, identification and / or PIN, even in case of loss or theft of your smartphone?
You must immediately block your Payconiq Access / App via the corresponding function in the web or mobile banking of your bank (according to each partner bank).
There is a security limit per transaction or transfer of money and / or per day and / or per week, depending on the security policy applied by the partner bank that offers the Payconiq App to its customers. For ING this limit is set at EUR 1,250 by default and for other banks this limit is fixed at EUR 2,500 by default (subject to the balance available on the bank account, including any lines of credit). This limit is editable online for some. For others, you can define it at the time of activation and modify it later. Contact your bank or visit its website for more details.

Today we are launching a new logo. We loved our old logo but it was time to refresh and modernize it. This transition was done smoothly for our partners, merchants and users. In January 2020, we changed our logo and brand first with “Digicash by Payconiq”. Now it’s time to take the next step and move to “Payconiq”.
By joining forces with Payconiq, Digicash wanted to be part of the future of mobile payments in Europe.
Payconiq is a Luxembourg-based mobile payment company and operates interoperable payment solutions in Luxembourg (under the brand Digicash by Payconiq), Belgium (under the brand Payconiq by Bancontact), and the Netherlands (under the brand Payconiq).
Payconiq works closely with major European banks to enable consumers to pay bills, online, in stores and between individuals with a smartphone. Payconiq International works with 90,000 merchants and several international payment service providers throughout the Benelux. Its payment platform connects partners and payment systems and enables them to offer their customers fast, reliable and innovative payment products.
Payconiq is the first payment company to have implemented interoperability in a European region. In Luxembourg, under the Digicash by Payconiq brand, in Belgium, under the Payconiq by Bancontact brand, and in the Netherlands, under the Payconiq brand.
We wanted to be consistent with Belgium and the Netherlands. That’s why it seemed logical to change our name to Payconiq.
Not the same name but still us:
– We are still the preferred mobile payment app in Luxembourg.
– We still work closely with banks in Luxembourg.
– We still have a strong foothold in Luxembourg with our headquarters here.
With Payconiq, we offer more value: cross-border payments, a scalable platform, new benefits for merchants and users by the end of the year,…
No, the Digicash brand no longer exists.
By becoming Payconiq, we want to be consistent with Belgium and the Netherlands, which also use the Payconiq brand.
Since December 2020, the Digicash QR codes have been gradually replaced by Payconiq QR codes. The merchants, for their part, are now using the Payconiq payment platform instead of Digicash. Thanks to this change of platform, customers from Belgium and the Netherlands who use Payconiq can pay in partner stores in Luxembourg.
Since the end of September 2021, the apps have also been renamed to Payconiq.
This new feature allows you to scan Payconiq QR codes, in Luxembourg, Belgium or the Netherlands. You will also be able to send (and receive) money to your friends or receive money from your friends who use the Payconiq app.
The onboarding process has not changed. You can find the installation steps here. If you have any difficulties, please contact your bank or contact us at [email protected] or +352 26 37 36 – 2.
Yes, from now on a Payconiq user from Luxembourg, Belgium or the Netherlands can scan Payconiq QR codes in Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.
